About Lake Norman

Location

An "inland sea," Lake Norman has more than 520 miles of shoreline and covers nearly 32,500 acres (50 square miles) in four counties - Catawba, Iredell, Mecklenburg and Lincoln. It stretches 34 miles north to south and 9 miles at its widest point. It was created in 1963 when the Cowands Ford Dam was built. It provides electricity and water to portions of Iredell, Lincoln, and Mecklenburg.

It is a popular destination throughout the region, with 8 public boat access areas, two fishing banks and numerous parks with trails, camping and recreational facilities. Lake Norman State Park and Queens Landing are popular attractions on the lake, and both are close to The Farms.
